Of the many horses of folklore and myth, few strike a stronger presence than Pegasus, the mighty winged stallion of Greek tradition. The mount of the hero Bellerophon, born of the blood of Medusa (and, in some tellings, Poseidon), and occasionally the bearer of Zeus' lightning, the many legends of this great horse have been told for millennia. He also exists as one of the constellations we see in the night sky today (to find him, look for Cygnus, Andromeda, and Pisces; he's close by).
For Pegasus, I wanted a pose that felt dynamic and soaring and looked to birds of prey, cross country eventers, and barrel racers for inspiration. For his build, I pulled loosely from two ancient Greek breeds: the Thessalian (also said to be the breeding of the legendary steed Bucephalus), and the Andravida. This one was definitely a challenge, but it was a tremendous amount of fun to work on, and I hope he soars into your heart just like he did mine.
