Behind the piece, from the artist

There are few creatures in folklore and myth that can rival the fame and longevity of the unicorn. From antiquity to the medieval period to the modern era, stories of this beast continue to capture the minds and hearts of people all over the world.

With a creature so widely spoken about, it was a real challenge to decide which version of the myth to use. For this interpretation, I wanted to go with a "prettier", more high-fantasy variation sometimes seen in more current works, dropping the beard, feathering, and lion-like tail, while still keeping some of the unicorn's most defining traits: its long horn (of course) and its cloven hooves. This piece was a real treat for me to work on, and I hope it brings a little magic to your days like it did to mine.
