Behind the piece, from the artist
Behind the piece, from the artist
Hailing from the Alps of Italy and Austria, the Haflinger is one of my personal favorite horse breeds and one that I felt was perfect for a winter-inspired scene. For the overall style, I wanted to bring to mind classic children's and young reader book illustrations that I remember loving as a little girl; and this was managed by playing with various textured brushes for the shading, linework, and background (including a few that were new to me!). This little guy was a real joy to work on, and I hope that you love him as much as I do.
